About hanzi.ac

hanzi.ac is a Chinese–English dictionary for people learning Chinese.

Every entry shows simplified and traditional characters, tone-coloured pinyin, audio, the HSK level, stroke order you can watch or practise writing, example sentences with pinyin under every word, and a breakdown of each character.

Search accepts characters (simplified or traditional), pinyin with or without tone numbers (nihao, ni3hao3, nǐhǎo) and English. Pasting a Chinese phrase lists the words it is made of.

Audio

Audio is generated in your browser by a Mandarin speech model. The model downloads once (about 340 MB) on the first play and is stored on your device. Voice, speed and repetition are set in the pronunciation panel (speaker button at the top of the page). The device's own Chinese voice can be selected instead.
